Fish curry recipes are highly nutritious and is very beneficial for heart and eyes. It’s really true that fish curry is one of the wonderful recipes when we talk about the non- vegetarian dishes.
This curry recipe is full- flavored and tasty, a typical style of Indian curry. For making the fish curry recipe one can use the fresh water fish or sea fish.
- 8 medium fillets of fish
- 1 cup chopped onion
- 1/4 tablespoon black cumin seeds (kalonji)
- 1 cup of potato cube
- 2 tablespoons lime juice
- 2 whole dry red chilies
- 2 tablespoons of coriander powder
- 1 tablespoon of mustard paste
- 1 tablespoon of ginger paste
- 1 tablespoon of turmeric powder
- 1 bay leaf
- 10 tablespoons of refined oil.
- 4 cups of water
- Salt to taste
Cooking time: 30 minutes.
First cut and clean the fish fillet, wash them well. Drain the excess water otherwise the oil will sputter unnecessary from the pan .Marinate with limejuice, turmeric powder and salt. Keep aside for 30 minutes. Take a medium sized frying pan .Heat it well. Put some tablespoons of oil and shallow fry the marinated fish from both sides until the fishes turn brown and crispy . In the same saucepan stir fry the potato cubes for two to three minutes till light brown. Take them off and keep aside.
Heat up remaining oil, add the black cumin seeds (kalonji) and now add the whole dry red chillies and bay leaf, stir fry for a few minutes till seeds crackles. Now add the chopped onions and salt. Fry it for few minutes till it is turns golden brown. Sprinkle little water, if required. Add ginger and mustard paste and then stir for couple of minutes.
Fry it well to remove the pungency from the mustard. At this stage add the fried potatoes along with coriander and turmeric powder. Stir fry masala nicely until oil starts separating. Pour 3- 4 cups of water. Now cover the lid of the pan. Cook it in simmer for 5 minutes so that potatoes are completely cooked. Now gently slide in the fried fish slices and simmer for two to three minutes till oil comes on top of gravy. Be careful, while placing the fishes as they are soft and get crumbled easily.
The fish curry is served hot with steamed rice or noodles. Decorate with cut green coriander leaves.
